Hello Partner: Google & Virgin America

Google and Virgin America, two brands that are well known to the public, have come up with a brilliant idea: To spark a partnership.

For select Virgin America flights between July 1 and September 30, passengers will be able to check out Samsung Chromebook laptops at their gates for use during their flight. The Samsung Chromebook debuted in select online stores in June, has neither a Mac OS nor Windows OS but rather runs with a Google Chrome OS which is optimized for web-based tasks and apps. With this being said, many consumers are unaware of this newly available option and the capacity of this new operating system.

This partnership is an ideal situation for both companies. Google benefits by having their new product tested for free by a variety of potential clients and can get direct feedback. All while Virgin America benefits by having this offer available to their passengers, as well as entertaining their passengers on their flight, giving them more exposure as a traveling option and creating more buzz about their company.

This simple and interesting partnership has the potential of increasing customer traffic for both companies as well as creating happy customers and happy companies. For more information on this partnership and precise details about the event visit : http://www.virginamerica.com/vx/chromezone.

Brand, Spend or Web?

Today I’m kicking off the first of many posts where I discuss some of the major changes in Marketing and what’s needed to be successful. I’m sure many of you will think differently, if so please voice your opinion - I really want to hear your take.

Plus a winner will be crowned at the end of this!

So I find myself in this debate all the time, what is more important your brand, what spend or web. The funny thing is your background usually dictates your answer.

If I’m talking to an old marketing vet you know they will back the brand. If it’s somebody from a large retailer it might lean toward their budget, which promotes current offers and discounts.  If I’m talking to an e-tailer or a software company, much more value is put on web.

So which is right? Which is needed more? What is the silver bullet that you need in your gun and why?

Let the debate begin.
